Exodus 15 — Under Pressure: Learning to Trust the God Who Delivers

Section 1 — Exodus 15:1–5 | Remembering What God Has Done

1. What do Moses and the Israelites say God has done for them, and what does their song reveal about whom they credit for their deliverance?

2. When God brings you through a difficult season, how quickly do you recognize His hand—and how easily do you forget what He has done when the next difficulty comes?

Section 2 — Exodus 15:6–12 | Learning Who God Is

3. What characteristics of God are revealed in these verses through the way Israel describes His power over Pharaoh and Egypt?

4. When you are under pressure, what does your response reveal about the God you actually believe in—not simply the God you say you believe in?

Section 3 — Exodus 15:13–21 | Trusting God for What Comes Next

5. Israel has been delivered from Egypt, but their journey is not finished. According to verses 13–18, what are they learning about God's ability not only to rescue them from the past but also to lead them into the future?

6. Where in your life is it easier to look back and see God's faithfulness than it is to trust Him with what lies ahead? What would trusting Him there look like?

Section 4 — Exodus 15:22–24 | Pressure Reveals the Heart

 The contrast is striking: three days separate the song from the grumbling.

7. After everything Israel has just witnessed at the Red Sea, what does three days without water reveal about them when they encounter their next crisis?

8. What tends to come out of you when life becomes difficult—fear, anger, complaining, control, blame, withdrawal, prayer, trust? What does that response reveal about what is really happening in your heart?

Section 5 — Exodus 15:25–27 | The God Who Tests, Teaches, and Reveals Himself

 Moses cries out to the LORD. God provides an answer, but He also uses the crisis to teach Israel about Himself. Then comes the remarkable declaration: “I am the LORD, your healer.” And immediately afterward, they arrive at Elim—with twelve springs and seventy palm trees.

9. How does God respond when Moses cries out to Him at Marah, and what does God reveal about Himself that Israel did not know—or understand as deeply—before this experience?

10. Could the pressure you are experiencing right now be an opportunity not merely for God to solve a problem, but for you to know Him more deeply? What would it mean for you to cry out to Him and trust Him before you know how He will provide?

Pressure reveals what is in us.
What is revealed drives us either toward ourselves or toward God.
When we turn toward God, we learn to trust Him.
And as we trust Him, He reveals more of who He is.

 God had already demonstrated that He could control water. Israel had just walked through the sea on dry ground. Three days later they encounter water they cannot drink—and panic. The problem wasn't that they had never seen God's power. The challenge was trusting yesterday's God with today's problem.
