Built around the teaching of Ephesians 5:33, Love & Respect explores the different ways husbands and wives may experience their deepest relational needs. Eggerichs describes what he calls the “Crazy Cycle”: when a wife feels unloved, she may respond in ways her husband experiences as disrespectful; when a husband feels disrespected, he may respond in ways his wife experiences as unloving, creating an escalating pattern of disconnection. He then offers practical ways to interrupt that cycle by choosing love and respect even when a spouse does not immediately reciprocate. The book helps couples look beneath conflict to understand what their spouse may actually be hearing and experiencing, and encourages husbands and wives to respond intentionally rather than simply reacting to one another.
