Just the facts
So where are we going and what do we think we’ll be doing?? Many things.
Through internet searches, phone calls, emails and zoom calls, God has opened doors to short term missional opportunities in several locations:
1. Ministry at Traction conference in Switzerland
2. Ministry in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany
3. Ministry in Stuttgart, Germany
We leave for Germany on September 1, 2025 and land back in Minnesota December 16, 2025. We will headquarter in Freiburg im Breisgau, a large city in the Black Forest of southwest Germany. Our main contact in Freiburg has very generously provided us with an apartment there which will serve as our home base.
Cal will be serving as a therapist at the Traction missionary conference September 18 – 24. This will be held at a beautiful retreat near Interlachen in the Swiss Alps. The connections made in this short mission hold potential that God only knows.
We will be getting involved in Calvary Chapel Freiburg, a good-sized church in Freiburg im Breisgau. As we build relationships here, there is potential for us to teach workshops or classes on marriage learnings, relational conversation skills, and other topics.
Calvary Chapel is also one of several local churches involved in starting up a new Bible college near Freiburg. We’ve had several conversations with Lars, who has a strong vision for training church planters to reestablish gospel-centered churches in Germany, especially in the former East German region where faith was suppressed for decades. He wants to see these new pioneers equipped with solid Bible teaching, business skills to support themselves, and lay counseling skills—and he has invited Cal to come develop and teach the lay counseling component.
We plan to spend three or four weekends in Stuttgart, an even larger metro area two hours northeast of Freiburg, to be involved with a unique church called Stadthafen Kollectiv. Their leadership team has a vision to be the body of Christ in their community by loving their neighbors and hosting a little café where lifegiving conversations can happen. We’ve been warmly invited to spend time with them, getting to know people and doing a little teaching and mentoring on each trip.
We’ve been in email communication with other churches as well, and time will tell what each of those contacts may grow into.
We are almost certain that what we think we know now about our plans is just the launching point to get us there. Please pray that we can stay flexible and sensitive to the direction God provides step by step.
